Review
"An attractive introduction to social studies in infographic form. The titles all begin with four questions designed to pique readers' interest ('Do you wonder where people live in the world?'), and the text is divided into 12 brief chapters. Factual data is presented, such as dates and statistics, as well as more complex concepts, all presented comprehensibly. For example, World Geography shows how rivers are vital for food and communication, maps the world's seven highest mountains, shows the layers of habitat in a rain forest, and discusses smog. US Government defines democracy and explains taxation, voting, and the three branches of American government. Economics covers topics such as the use of assembly lines, recycling electronics, seed money, and the idea of a global economy. The colorful charts, maps, and illustrations that fill the pages of this series are sure to appeal to young readers who live in a high-tech, digital world." ―School Library Journal (Journal)

Good for elementary. Very short but informative.
If you'd like to learn about our government, but don't like reading long books, there might be something else you can do. Perhaps you are the type who loves to look at infographics, visual representations of factual material. A lot of information can be garnered from infographics. You can easily see the path it takes to become president just by following the Candy Land-like game plan that swirls around on a two-page spread in this book. Just start out with some early planning, make the "big announcement," and work your way to the top! There are three branches of government: the executive branch, legislative branch, and judicial branch. Now that's very easy to remember, but remembering the "system of checks and balances" might not click in your mind readily. If you can follow different colored branches going this way and that (think tree here), you can easily see the connection between each one. The president, who is a part of the executive branch, "names justices to the Supreme Court," but if need be Congress, which is part of the legislative branch, "can fire a justice."The United States has three levels of government, based "on the idea of federalism." If you take a quick glance at an infographic in the form of a pyramid, you can quickly come away with a lot of information. Those three levels are the local, state, and federal governments. Each slice of that pyramid tells you their roles, how they operate, specific jobs, and / or who's in charge. On the federal level, for example, you'll learn at a glance that some of the specific jobs are "running the military, managing Social Security, and coining money." Among the many things you'll learn include learning about what governments do, what type of governments there are across the globe, democracies through time, what the US Constitution is all about, party politics, and much more. This book is a great look at the US government though a variety of infographic materials. Many young readers, especially reluctant ones, find it difficult to absorb and sort the connection between concepts. One way that is not only informative, but fun, is to learn about them visually through infographics. There are a wide variety of "charts, maps, and illustrations" that make it fun to learn about how our government works. The layout literally pops with facts that are colorfully displayed and easy to understand and work with. Any one of these infographics could easily lead to further research for a school report. In the back of the book is an index, a glossary, and additional book and website resources to explore.SUPER SOCIAL STUDIES INFOGRAPHICS:Economics Through InfographicsUS Culture Through InfographicsUS Geography Through InfographicsUS Government Through InfographicsUS History Through InfographicsWorld Geography through InfographicsThis book courtesy of the publisher.
