This is a good place to start if studying for the CIIP exam. It contains lots of great information for every level of PACS administration. Definitely a great addition to my PACS library. One flaw, spelling and grammar errors.

This book is a good starting point. I got it to prepare for the CIIP. It will increase your understanding of many topics covered on the CIIP, however, I do not feel that it contains enough information on its own for you to pass the CIIP.

SCOT MCKNIGHT (PhD, University of Nottingham) is professor of New Testament at Northern Theological Seminary in Lombard, Illinois. He is the author of more than fifty books, including the popular The Jesus Creed and recent releases, The Heaven Promise and The Hum of Angels. McKnight speaks two to four times per month across the country, including at venues such as Catalyst, Q Conference, and Willow Creek Community Church. Biblical scholar Scot McKnight has a keen mind for biblical truth, coupled together with a heart for the church. This is why, beginning in 2016, he partnered with Waterbrook to produce three books addressing religious experience (The Heaven Promise: Engaging the Bible's Truth About Life to Come;The Hum of Angels: Listening for the Messengers of God Around Us). This book is the third in that series, presented not as a systematic theology of the Holy Spirit, but rather a discussion of the work of the Holy Spirit in the life of the believer in the experience of the church. Per the title, the author offers a challenge to both believer and non-believer to become open to the work of the Spirit in every aspect of life. From this starting point, the book then presents a solid introduction to the work of the Spirit from multiple points of consideration.Part 1 of the book is “Open to the God Who Speaks.” These four chapters examine how the Spirit works in God’s speaking through Jesus, through Scripture, and through the prophetic word. At the center of the book is transformation: “It is the Spirit who makes us so engrossed and so enveloped and utterly joyful to gaze upon Jesus” (25). And that transformation comes with challenge to surrender to the Spirit rather than seeking ways to promote our own desires — a necessary temperament: “Being critical is not the same as being prophetic” (44). The fourth chapter of this section begins the turn into the formation of the Spirit that will dominate remainder of the book in discussing how the Spirit intercedes for us and is at work within us.Part 2 then presents the challenge to be “Open to the New Creation of the Spirit,” which needs to be considered both by seasoned Christian and borderline believer. What does it mean to be open to the transformative work of the Spirit? What does it mean to have the Spirit usher you into a new day, a new baptism, a new self, and a new power? Each of these topics are taken in a balanced and thoughtful way, and the author is careful not to move into one of the many extremes that so often (unfortunately) accompany discussions of the Spirit. Again, the center is spiritual formation: “Christians have only one thing to offer to the world, and that is Jesus himself …” (86).Part 3 is a necessary, though often neglected, part of the modern church discussions of the Spirit: the community that is formed by the Spirit. To embrace the work of the Spirit one is called to become “Open to the People of the Spirit.” The presence of the Spirit will bring about a new kind of people, who operate with a new kind of leadership, because they have a new orientation in life, which is radically restructured around love. This last part is key to McKnight’s perspective, especially in discussing matters of the church. And here he goes through the paces of finding ways to show love the way Christ has called us, most notably in the Spirit’s leading the believer to show love to those who are our enemies (and he pushes on this point to make it more difficult for the believer to wiggle out of this command).Part 4 expands on the life of love that is brought about by the Spirit, as those who are open to the Spirit will also be “Open to the Virtues of the Spirit.” Here the discussion weighs heavily on the concept of holiness (those from various church traditions will recognize this as a necessary topic to explore in a book such as this). The virtues of the Spirit are explored in the new assurance given to the believer, bringing about a new freedom, and living in what is good while rejecting that which opposes good. There is a lot of good material in this, but the best summary is given by the author himself: “Holiness … is love done well” (153),Part 5 then gives five chapters on being “Open to the Victory of the Spirit,” which brings together the previous threads of the book with a handful of issues that continue to perplex most of the modern church. How the Spirit gives a new victory over sin, over communication (the issue of tongues comes up again here), sickness and death (healing), spiritual warfare (greatly undervalued in modern American Christianity), and in our worship of God. Once again, the context of the church is key in each of these areas, captured well in the comment: “Worship is fellowship and fellowship is worship” (198). There is more transformative truth to this statement than many will immediately recognize.McKnight provides us with a readable and engaging discussion about the work of the Holy Spirit in the life of the believer in the fellowship of the church. Throughout the book it is clear that he is engaging thoughtful and serious scholarship on the theology of the Spirit, though this neither intimidates nor overwhelmed the reader. He also includes many stories and anecdotes and personal reflections that help the reader connect to the concepts being presented. This would be a good book for individual growth and discovery, but would also find a place in small group studies wherever men and women are desiring more in their relationship with Christ Jesus.

Many of the chapters were right on with knowing or enlightening the reader to life in the Spirit. Some chapters, IMO, were not as relevant as others and in those chapters, I looked forward to see what the next chapter would bring. It was a good book overall and I learned some key insights in the "good" chapters.

This book is well written on the Holy Spirit

As usual, Scot McKnight offers a timely, well-written, and fairly thorough overview of the Person and work of the Holy Spirit and exhorts his readers to be "open" to the Spirit by being open to the God who speaks, to the new creation of the Spirit, to people of the Spirit, to the virtues of the Spirit, and to the victory of the Spirit. These are some interesting major headings with chapters that develop and expand each heading and explores them in more biblical and practical detail. He deals with many biblical texts and offers a succinct biblical theology of the Spirit, in many ways, with many applications, anecdotes, and with somewhat of greater attention to the gift of tongues than I would have expected. He covers the supernatural empowerment and the gifts of the Spirit and prophecy, etc. anointing for leadership and service, the Spirit and Jesus, as well as holiness and the life of love in the Spirit. His tone is irenic and thoughtful all the way through, less academic than his many other books, but not superficial, and well-presented material. In my opinion, the one great omission in his treatment in terms of a major work of the Spirit would be in the mission of the church through Spirit-empowered people who pray, proclaim the gospel with boldness, and impact their worlds as a faith community bound together by the Spirit in Christ-centered, Gospel oriented, evangelism, mission, and disciple making. Being open to the Spirit for life and leadership, gifts and holiness, should serve as a channel by which the Spirit's work is not only God in us, God with us, and God transforming us (as per his sub-title), but also God THROUGH us. There is a recent resurgence of quality books on the Holy Spirit to help many Christians who need to experience a revitalized and robust applied Trinitarian Christian evangelical theology. Scot's book is a positive contribution to this end.

Open To The SPIRIT Is a wonderful book. In the beginning before the book even starts there is an incredible prayer to set you on the right foot and to keep you locked in in your heart. This book, like it says "Scot opens up the Scriptures and introduces us to the greatest of GOD's SPIRIT" which is as you know is the HOLY SPIRIT. Each chapter gives more and more information or, intense and closer and closer to GOD; Which is where I want to be. I love GOD so much more after this. I never ever thought of the HOLY SPIRIT the way HE is until this book came around please don't miss your chance to see HIM too. With this book, Paolini breaks his streak of ripping off plot points from Star Wars. And he does a pretty good job of making it interesting as well.Like Eldest, the story is split mainly between Eragon and Roran. Eragon mostly does political things, while Roran is involved in the thick of the fighting. However, unlike Eldest, both characters stories are exciting. I've said before that Paolini is good at writing battles, and he puts a lot of them into this book. This series needed a shot of adrenaline, and this book delivered.

Reading this book, the third of four, is best done after reading the first two. You will be lost as there are a great many characters and subplots to follow. This is a great series. It has everything, plot, action, philosophy, depth of characterization. It will appeal to all, children and adults, who have a love of dragon lore. Saphira, the primary dragon in the tale, is witty, wonderful and wise. She is also a dangerous predator who happens to have bonded with her human rider and together they make a formidable pair of heroes. There is good and evil but the author has shown us how the line between the two is very blurred. As in real life, the humans, dwarves, elves and other creatures are a mixture of good and bad often acting out of necessity under pressure to survive.

I chose 5 stars because the book was complete. Everything that had been a cliff hanger in Eldest was answered in brisingir. I really liked the feeling the author put into the book. It feels like your the one being torn between oaths, your the one who travels around everywhere. And finally, I loved this book because you get to experience what courage really is. You get to feel how difficult it is when Roran is proving himself to the Varden, and how he must be brave and just do it. All in all, this book was fabolous!

I remember waking up Christmas morning, 2008, running downstairs and seeing this book lying on the arm of our couch. Man was I ecstatic!! As soon as we were finished opening presents, I immediately ran up to my room and began reading it. This was a really good story. It, like Eldest, took me a little while to read, but not as much time. Like Eragon, I read it every chance I got. Granted, it was long, but I loved it all the same. Christopher Paolini is a very talented author! I like his writing style. I still remember when this series was all the rage when I was younger. It is a great book for fantasy lovers.

For his age this writer does an exzeptional job and hope he comes out with another series. This kept me wanting to keep on reading and not stopping until finished. But with the large volume of pages to read takes a while to finish. Prepare yourself for an excellent book and would compare him to R A Salvatore.

I have loved this series since book one. I see that there is a lot of hate for this series. I can see why. It is predictable in most of its broad story movements. What keeps me going here is I love the moral dilemmas that the characters endure. Put simply I love the characters from this series. That is why this series appeals to me so much. They grow, they learn, they have become my friends.This one is a lot more violent than the last two. It makes this book a lot more brutal than Eldest and Eragon. I felt the stakes were higher.I can tell that he has grown as a writer. This isn't the same kid that wrote Eragon. I know this series fails to please everybody. It does please me. Can't wait to start book four and see what fate has in store for my friends.

"Brisingr" is the third book in "The Inheritance Cycle", and in some regards I enjoyed it more than the previous two books because it seems like there is some hope for Eragon in his upcoming battle against Murtagh and King Galbatorix. The story did seem to drag at times dealing with Dwarven politics, Roran's rise in the Varden, etc.I liked that this book delved deeper into Eragon's character as he questions his theological beliefs, he explores his thoughts on judging others, he learns more about his family line, and he engages in a short quest to obtain a sword worthy of a Dragon Rider!Overall, the Eragon books take a lot from other works (e.g., Lord of the Rings, The Earthsea Cycle, etc.), but I find them enjoyable. They present good, clean epic fantasy for young adult readers.

Another wonderfully-woven tale of the land of Alagaesia from Christopher Paolini. Eragon's character is given much more depth and purpose, as is Roran's, and we are given much more information on the history of the Dragon Riders, specifically Brom, Morzan and Galbatorix. Spahira's character is fleshed out further and we are given a greater insight into the bond between Dragon and Rider. A hero's quest continues, his own past and destiny questioned, and edging ever closer is the inevitable confrontation with the evil Galbatorix. Paolini has done an absolutely wonderful job with this series thus far and I almost cannot wait for the final entry, though I am sad to see the series ending. I highly recommend this book as well as its two predecessors, "Eragon" and "Eldest", for fantasy and adenture fans; you won't be disappointed. Paolini is a storyteller the likes of which does not come along but once, maybe twice, in a single generation, and not a word of his is to be cast aside.

This is a good book, but I have it 4 stars for the series. Consistently, after the first two books, I get half way through this book and am no longer inclined to read it. There's nothing wrong with the story or the writing but it's just so long.

This book lacks the depth of some of Stark's full-length pieces, but it remains an interesting look at Iraq in a self-consciously modernizing moment between Burton and Bush. It's impossible to not think of what has happened since, and one aches for the dashed dreams of the young effendi making their new country, but Stark's writing is wonderful, as always, and the book is quite pleasurable.For what it's worth, though, the Tauris Parke paperback edition is just full of misprints. It reads a lot like an OCR scan of an old copy ... that was not proofread at all.

This is a short little book, of Stark's travels through modern-day Iraq, but interesting now because many of the places she traveled to freely in the 30's are in the news today. Stark was one of the many "Arabists" who traveled the Middle East freely and actually lived in a Baghdad slum for many months just to get closer to the natives. It is more of a travelogue than a political treatise, but her observations and conversations with the old order of the Bedouins and others are interesting. She notes the graveyards of English soldiers who were killed during the days when the newly formed Iraq was a British protectorate after the breakup of the Ottoman Empire after WWI and concludes that these were lives wasted on a very backward country, without understanding the reason this country was important was not for its medievel culture but its oil. Her observations would be considered substantially "politically incorrect" today, but her access to some of the tribal leaders resulted in very interesting conversations, not the least of which was her meeting with Shaikh 'Abdu'l-Husain and his warnings about the developing events in Palestine, before the creation of Israel, but after the Balfour declaration.Her description of the intensity of the hatred between the Shiia and the Sunni, the beheading of Ali 1250 years before her visit to Kerbela and Najaf where it is remembered as if it occurred the day before is most insightful. Her declaration of these towns living on their memory of hate where time stopped, is really very good writing. Her observations of the slaves in Kuwait as if it was nothing out of the ordinary, which it wasn't considering the slavery was not officially abolished in Saudi Arabia until the 1960's is also very good history in itself.Of course such a book could not be written today for many reasons, but if you want to get a better flavor for today's issues in the Middle East, you could do worse than invest a couple hours in this book, since nothing has really changed, only the reporting has become remote and detached and politically correct, which gives those of us living today a very unbalanced picture of the forces still at work in Iraq 70 years after she wrote about them.

As a foreigner who came long ago to live in Mexico I can sympathize with Stark's observations. I have written many that are parallel and wish I still had that freshness and sense of wonder, but if you stay long enough you blend in, you become yourself a subject for a sketch. Her sketches tell tales, draw pictures, highlight scenes, that a native is never aware of. It's his daily life, he never stops to think about it, sees nothing odd, certainly nothing "exotic" in what transpires around him. Freya, furthermore, has a gift for words and her descriptions are often breathtaking. Magic is always there, you just have to have a privileged eye, in order to single it out.

Great book to take on holidays while traveling. A few great message by a woman who was interesting and lived her life as a trailblazer. She would have been a rare role model in her day.

These are great short stories from a daring female explorer and writer, Freya Stark, who traveled throughout old world Arabia and Persia - an anomoly of her time. However this particular title is of short stories from her stay in Bagdhad - a world away from today's issues. I did not like the introduction and found the writer sarcastic in tone, and did not understand what her goal was. I would highly recommend this book for it's very pleasant read - the romantic and concise details of days gone by make for an enjoying reading session. But do skip the introduction!

The book offers a unique protrayal of Baghdad in the 1930s through the eyes of a young British woman who lived amongst its slum dwellers on less than £1 a day. Freya Stark's day-to-day encounters with people in the slums juxtaposed with Iraqi intelligentsia and the detached British elite who ruled Iraq through the mandate, offers a valuable insight into how short-sighted and flawed was the British imperial outlook on nation-building in Mesopotamia.

James Bastien was born in Bellingham, Washington, on April 10, 1934. His father, Clarence, was musical and played the violin. They performed as the duo-piano team, Smisor and Bastien. In addition, Jim was a Columbia Artist accompanist whose collaborative career included appearances with Richard Tucker and John Alexander. During this time Jim and Jane started writing music to address the needs of their students. This was the beginning of the Bastien piano books that have inspired so many piano students and teachers.The Bastien piano books have been published worldwide by the Neil A. Kjos Music Company since 1963 and are now translated into 14 languages. In 1999, The Music Teachers National Association presented Jim and Jane with the Lifetime Achievement Award, the association's highest honor, in recognition of their outstanding career in music and contribution to the music profession.James W. Bastien, loving husband and father, and a passionate piano pedagogue and musician, passed away on December 7, 2005, in La Jolla, California. During his long career, Jim became internationally known through his contributions to piano teaching, composing, writing, adjudication, and performing. With more than 300 publications to his credit, the Bastien name has become synonymous with innovative piano pedagogy.

Unlike previous volume, maybe because this volume has 127 pages, it is a spiral binding version. This is ok with me. What bothered me was the music note printing inside this volume was not as comfortable as previous volumes for the eyes to read. At the beginning I thought this volume I received was a counterfeit. But the notes were very clear to read, just not that comfortable to read. I read other reviews, it seemed this volume was indeed spiral binding version. I wish the publisher could keep using the same quality paper to print.

My piano teacher recommended this book and I understand it has been around for awhile, reason being, this is a good one. Also of note, the print is large and legible. You do not always get that in a music book and I for one appreciate not having to strain my eyes trying to decipher small print. It has a nice variety in it and chances are you will find several pieces very much to your liking.

This is a wonderful collection of pieces if you are interested in the classics. Some of the pieces are a bit difficult for me, but I love them regardless and will keep picking away at them. I had played for about ten years, then stopped for five so I am a bit rusty. These are great pieces for improving hand strength and speed also if your looking for a showy piece.

I like the selections and the print is easy enough to read and the spiral bound allows the book to lay flat well. However I’m not thrilled by the editorial notes. Not as clear or helpful as it’s Faber counterpart.

This book is required by the piano teacher. Quality of printing is normal, unless some other reviewer's comment.

This is a good book for intermediate-advanced students.

It has the music I was looking for. It is a spiral bound book, which is easy to open and keep straight. The previous editions were not spiral bound, according to my piano teacher. Also, the print is large enough for easy reading.

Wonderful music in a clear format. Spiral binding helps the music lay open. Nice selection. The levels are accurate for the most part. Highly recommended.
