I preordered this book because I knew it was going to be exceptionally good, as is everything offered by artist Jeanne Oliver. I own many of her fashion pieces and I follow her on social media and have long been an admirer and fan of everything she does. Once I received this book, I was actually blown away at how blown away I was. It far exceeded my expectations, which were pretty high to begin with. I will tell you what I love about it...I love the way she is so generous with her knowledge and her experiences. I love the way she talks conversationally. I love the way she is in the details of every single thing, so that you are not left saying, about ANYTHING..."I wish she would have included that..." -in fact, many times over, I was left thinking.... "wow, she even included that!" - the hardest part of finishing this book was that I wanted to stop every few pages and try what she was demonstrating and writing so eloquently about, but I knew if I did that I might not return to the book and finish it...so I devoured to cover to cover over about a week of evenings. The photography and photo styling is breathtaking too... so it's just a really pleasurable book to sit with and read. And a pleasurable book to sit and read is one thing, but this one also inspires action. This book makes you feel like you can do what she is teaching you to do, and it makes you WANT to do it. That is quite an admirable skill in this time of short attention spans and being on to the next thing. This will be my go-to book for art journaling inspiration and will also be the book that I recommend to others who are wanting to either get into art journaling or wanting to be re-inspired to begin again. I recommend this book wholeheartedly and if you haven't checked out everything else Jeanne Oliver does... I highly recommend you do that too! You won't regret it. Always a feast for the eyes, the heart and the soul. She is becoming legendary in her offerings and deserves every bit of praise she gets!

Easily the best book/magazine I have bought all year. Oliver is an excellent writer, her prose making reading such a pleasure. The authenticity of the author is felt through the pages and project she wants to take with you. It is very inspiring. Healing is so Important for self care. Oliver puts it front and center to draw from our life experiences to tell our own individual stories because they matter. All of them.I recommend this book. You won’t be disappointed.

It's not just about making pretty pictures in a book. It's about excavating your soul's stories, collecting all the various threads that make you *you*, and putting them together to make art in a way that only you can.When I got my copy from Netgalley this morning, I thought I'd flip through it and go on with my day. Most art books, I go in, look at the techniques, see if there's anything new that I want to try in my own practice, and then, generally, they go on the shelf. Even the ones I like and end up keeping are often shelf-dwellers, waiting for me to need that particular technique.This is not how my morning went, y'all.By the second chapter or so, I was sitting in my comfy chair with a notebook, following a sidebar (just a sidebar!) of her advice to write down notes about all of your stories. Granted, she said to only take fifteen minutes or so. Two HOURS later, I was still scribbling notes and only made it to my late teens.Quick fact you may not know about me: I have a head injury. Got creamed by a drunk driver in 2003. There were days I forgot things like words and my own grandmother's name. There are large swaths of my life path that are foggy or I just don't remember.This morning, when I was making my scribbly list of stories, *I started remembering*, y'all. Things that were lost, stories that were foggy or forgotten.By the time I stopped for the time being (my hand was cramping), I had a WEALTH of new resources to draw upon. For me, for that one tip alone? I'd buy ten of these books.Then, though, she gets into her process, and through a whole host of absolutely gorgeous projects and unique techniques, she delves deep into those stories you've uncovered, and gives them the chance to be illuminated and seen. I've taken Jeanne's classes (which she has on her self-named site), and there are some projects that are repeats, just for the record. However, coming into them this time with another round of stories made the projects themselves new, as well.Oliver has put into the world not just a beautifully photographed and well-organized art resource, but a kind of soul-level tool for self-discovery here.I can not recommend it highly enough. It comes out in July. I suggest pre-ordering. Worth every penny, and about a million more.

My all-time favorite history-and-disease book. First read it as a teen many many years ago, and it probably played a part in focusing my interest in biology. Dr Zinsser shines through on every page, making it highly readable as well as good science (and sociology) history.I highly recommend it.

Interesting and witty read. For anyone interested in the history of Typhus Fever, or just the transmission of disease in general. And/or for people interested in history and/or science. A one-of-a-kind book.

This book met all of my expectations, and more. It was interesting to read the stories of how diseases and parasites had played major roles in the history of the world. A fascinating book.

Even though this book was required for a class, I found it to be entertaining and informative. This book is about how "vermin" have influenced humans throughout history, and why we have certain perceptions about rodents and insects. The book is pretty comprehensive, covering human history from the birth of agriculture to the industrial age to the present day. I think of rodents as misunderstood, so this really resonated with me and helped me understand why some people hate them so much. This book is a pretty short, quick read, so if you're interested in the history of rodents, bugs, and disease, check it out.

I love this book! Originally published in 1934, it has withstood the test of time. Clearly, the writer loves his subject. His writing is sly, witty and informative, as he draws the reader in to a growing appreciation of this unusual subject.

having sold most of the products in the book from the first model 1964 205 right up to the 1970s it has brought back plenty memories I am now retired after around 60 years radio engineering

lots of information about Grundig satellit radios. Great collector's book. The book is filled with details on every model, again useful to collectors.

This book shows black and white photographs of the line of Grundig Satellit radios from their inception. It includes the more recent Grundig Satellit 800 which was produced by the Eton company. The newer Grundig Satellit 750 is not included in this book if you are wondering.The author, obviously well versed in these radios, presents a chronological listing of the line of Grundig Satellit radios and I thank him for that work. I am glad to own this book.I gave the book only three stars for two main reasons. The sentence structure and consequent choice of words was very distracting to me and often prevented me from understanding just exactly what the author was saying. He obviously knows his subject but English is not his first language and, because of this, the information transfer to me has gaps.The second reason is that the grayscale photographs are poorly presented. They appear grainy or as low resolution images. He does mention that if you go to his website there are higher resolution color images there. I will do that in the near future.Books, such as this one, are very useful over time. Collectors are kept informed and so are more likely to seek models that they wouldn't have known about, thus making the hobby of radio collecting interesting and active. So I would recommend you purchase this book while it is still available.I would love to read a book about the inside, behind the scenes, events that led up to the production of any or all of these radios. But that would take an author interviewing and researching those people and documents that are still available. Then, once the book was produced, it would need be critiqued by someone who spoke and wrote the language fluently for the country it was to be published in. Otherwise, too much would be lost in the translation; to 'coin' a very old phrase.By the way, I read this entire book in two relatively short sittings. I will seek out and examine the author's website soon.

The writings of Dr. David Jeremiah continue to engage my interest not only because he simply writes well BUT because he uses the information in the Bible as it should be used. That is: not just to fill in the Sunday services in any Church, but to add meaning to what has become a fearful and complicated life fraught with many pitfalls which includes: a media that is no longer reliable as their only interest seems to be either reporting the BAD or creating their own bad by asking questions to people of note that will ensue negative responses. AND thus I began my quest for peace and honesty that can only come from a supreme being that is on a much higher level than any of us. This particular book takes the Lord's Prayer and using bible references analyzes the contents of each line of the prayer. I read it through almost without putting it down and find myself picking it up and reading parts of it again and again. I have several other of his books but this one gives me some hope and peace of mind that the World cannot give!

At this point in my life, and 74 years of age, I sincerely find that I am still a novice when it comes to prayer. I am very impressed that it took a bout with cancer to direct David Jeremiah, already a fantastic preacher and spiritual leader, to make him realize how important developing a consistent prayer life and maintaining a journal was. The key seems to be making sure that a journal is kept of your daily walk, your daily readings, your prayers and your experiences in the world. I plan to renew my efforts to maintain journaling as I did set for several years and then we'll pass those journals on to my grandchildren.

Invigorating book! This book has a great analysis of the Lord's Prayer. It shows how you can implement the prayer into your own prayer life.This has helped me rethink what I should pray about. I took notes on some of the many lessons I learned from the book. Highly recommended!

I have read many books on prayer, But they only are as good as they are implemented. Reading once was not enough. I will be reading it again more slowly so I can truly let the Spirit of God direct me through my life of prayer.

And we've learned how better to pray -- to plan and make time for it, to be specific, to be more persistent, to be more expectant.We enjoy the anecdotes and stories the author includes, as well as the quotes and insights from other theologians and scholars, like Oswald Chambers. Jeremiah's writing style is comfortable and clear, and he presents his ideas and insights in a well-organized manner.Most important, this book has helped etch more deeply onto our hearts the great love our God has for us. And reading it together gives us much to talk and think about together, so that as we each grow closer to God, we grow closer to each other.

Dr. Jeremiah gives wonderful illustration and meaning to the prayer, commonly called, The Lord's Prayer. His guiding understanding helped me review how I pray and what I pray for.

Love reading Dr David Jeremiah's books. He offers so much with his powerful messages about the roadmap for prayer. It isn't one of those 'good feeling' books. He speaks in biblical language that reach your heart. Put this one on your reading list.

This book is the guide to C#, especially if you want to focus on the language.I should disclose I am an experienced C# programmer, but after not doing as much for a while I jumped back in with this book and it really got me ready.It contains examples, but also explains clearly each concept. It's thorough and detailed in many areas where others aren't. It isn't one of those books that focuses on forms and Visual Studio, this gives you a solid language foundation.You're going to find this book covers a very wide range of the language and lots of concepts. A must have if you're going to do any serious C# development.

The focus is more on what is going on behind the scenes and how .net works. It will make you a much better C# programmer vs. teach you how to code. Probably best as a secondary source / guide. Great book but don't make it your first C# book. Probably best digested in small doses. Also by skimming through the book you can get a high level (i.e. generalized idea) of different advanced features of C#. Not a whole lot of code but there is tons of examples on MSDN. Overall well written and not boring.The only negative for me was that sometimes I wished the explanations were a bit simpler or straightforward for ~5 - 10% of the material. But this wasn't a big deal--there is so much info on youtube, MSDN, and various blogs. Probably is best as a reference or 2nd C# book. Overall I recommend it.

I must confess though that I haven't read this "cover to cover" yet. My initial impression is very favorable. I thought when I ordered this book that it was just a later edition of Jesse Liberty's C# book. But, if it was meant to be (as the cover art suggests) it is completely re-written and updated for C# 5.0. Some of the explanations in this book are more in-depth and there is less dependency on code examples than in Liberty's "C#" that always seemed to introduce idioms that hadn't been fully discussed in the text. The subjects (chapters) that I've read seem very clearly written. I look forward to a thorough read.

This is just how I think a book about programming should be. Starting from a fairly basic level, it gives you a complete overview without going into unnecessary details. Throughout the book, the author explains the reasoning for the language design, be it historical, related to Java, Win32 or something else. He also provides best practices, and last but not least: the code examples are excellent! The have the minimal number of lines needed to show the approach, and never give you the feeling you need to have Visual Studio open to really understand.

I love this book. I have the Building Windows Applications VB.NET/C# book that Jesse Liberty co-authored and with this book you have an indispensable pair of developer books. Lots of neat little tricks in here.

Great book for version 5.0. Easier than Maruc C# to follow along with. Good examples, and easy to read.

Well written book that I use often. Able to jump to variety of topics and learn them deeply, quickly with good flow. Many times it's much better than searching for a topic on the web.

Have to agree with most of the other reviewers. This is an excellent book. Took advantage of "Buy Used" and got a good deal. You'll find that working through the examples will give you a comprehensive understanding of both C# and the .Net Framework. Will be looking for more from Ian Griffiths.
